Feb 2nd, 2023: Bad Sleep

So last night, as i said, it was a bit of a lesser sleep night…. was nowhere near as bad as i expected, but still not great

So clearly i was dubious about my weight, and suspected it would be an increase day vs a decrease day……

And thats exactly what it was 113.8 kg and +0.2kg ….. i feel slightly drained at that news! But i am also aware that my sleep was terrible!

Thursdays are hard days post late night Wednesdays, i have to get going pretty early and start the day, and that also means walking….. The step count was pretty consistent when i got going, but i was motivated to move, and i finished the day at nearly 26k steps and 13 miles. I think thats still a good number.

Calories in/out stayed strong with some good numbers, it was a low day

It was a low consumption day, i mainly had protein shakes and by the end of the day all i wanted to do was shower and crawl into bed.

A few concerns, my DDP yoga was slipping and the peloton guide work was not its normal self! I know both of these items are critical for resistance and losing weight!

Anyway a good night sleep i hope and ready for the next day….

Feb 1st, 2023: Catch up v2

Earlier in Jan i got behind in writing, and low and behold its the 18th Feb and i am being in my writing from the 1st Feb till now….. I am going to try and have a bash at catching up with the world.

Firstly the weigh in, I left January at 113.5 kg and started Feb at 113.6 kg , urgh that’s +0.1 kg…. booooooo 🙁

But lets keep consistent and keep on going, as i said i found the end of January a little flakey with my focus, and just need to keep myself chipping away, Wednesday being wednesday means late night calls, it also means excessive walking for the whole of the day, i was just shy of 40k steps and 20 miles….. honestly by the end of the day i was truly exhausted, mentally and physically, and i knew the next few days would be truly hard.

One of the things with late night calls is the after affects, you just dont shut down, you cant be unwired! i think i always stay awake for another 2 hours after my calls. I watch a bit of TV or something just to relax…. but i know that the next morning is an early start, i need to get my daughter to school and i have an early morning call with my directs.

My net calories continue to be pretty decent at 1324 consumed! I am being good, and being focused…. but lots still to do!

Forgive me for my delays! I am going to play catch up

Jan 26th, 2023: Yoga and Weights

Last night i plugged my Garmin Fenix 6x in and forgot to put it back on my watch to track my sleep data. So i am a little out of track on that side.

However my weight, after its +0.2, and +0.3 just had a +0.4 kg and i am now at 114.9 kg. Almost back above my goal 1.

Today i have focused back on some good walking and yoga and sauna/meditation.

Walking at work hit a grand 13.6 miles, i ended up doing another late evening call for an hour with the Parents Association but again i was really tired.

I did a 30 mins yoga to try and get myself stretched out at the end of the day and then spent an hour in the sauna blanket trying to get rid of any water in my system, plus do a bit of meditation as well.

Tomorrow is going to be a sucky day! On Friday night i am helping a friends business do a merger and acquisition. Its going to be a long night

Jan 24th, 2023: Bump Up

As i say, with a big weight5 drop i am always conscious of the next few days ahead and some increases, and thats exactly what has happened today.

114.2 kg, + 0.2 kg from yesterday. I am always so blown away in fluctuation of my weight, and how it just bubbles up and down so easily. I don’t know why i have this challenge but i just do!

Today was a good but chopy start with walking, i ended up in the morning going to help a friend who has a business with some IT advice, so i did some of my morning work and calls from his desk.

Once i got home i hit the treadmill, clocked up my miles, at the end of the evening i had a call with the parents association and did some further walking.

I felt tired, i felt like i didn’t really want to do the walking today, and i felt inconsistent.

I did a light Yoga and Weights just to keep the momentum and switched off pretty heavily after.

One thing i am finding is my sleep has been poor this week, i feel like i have lots on my mind and cant quite throttle down to chill out and relax.

Last night was only 6h 30mins of sleep, and a small percentage was the good stuff!

Tomorrow is late night wednesday. There’s lots on at the moment at work with redundancies being announced and the sadness that this brings. Its confusing and stressful to everyone at the moment. And a lot can just change in an instant!

Jan 18th, 2023: The Long Wednesday returns

This is coming in a tad late tonight, i ended up having a longer wednesday call as i ended up chatting with my peers, and then after that i could not switch off so carried on with a few bits! But done….. so this short will be quite short, just because i am tired

today was a static day 115.4 kg

Not too much movement today but i do want to try and reach my first goal at some point in the next week or so. Its important for me to reach a milestone and just keep progress on that downwards trend

Steps where fine , was a bit of a late start to the morning as i helped a friend out. But still ended up getting 27k steps and just over 13 miles! You would think with all the walking i would be tiny! Clearly my genetics do not work that way!

Right bed for me! Night

Jan 17th, 2023: Tuesday Meetings

First thing is weigh in, 115.4 kg -0.1 kg from yesterday. It’s funny with the weight being reduced, an interesting observation is that the fat mass % is increasing which is a bit weird. Given how structured and healthy i am eating AND the fact that i am adding a fair bit of activity in my life i would expect the fat mass % to be dropping. It may just be an oddity on the withings body cardio scales.

Looking at the table in Garmin the various analysis done does fell very out of wack

Today was a long day in the office, lots of doc writing and reviewing others information. But also, lots of calls and calls went on till late today.

Walking was as always positive, 32k steps and just over 16 miles walked. Although i ran into a few difficulties over the day as the belt kept drifting to the left. I need to spend some time to fix and address that.

Today was a little higher on calories than normal. Not a massive amount and i still stayed within the limits of my constraints.

But the net calories continue to be positive, with my activity helping me burn calories off throughout the day.

Tonight, after i came in, i still ended up doing both DDP Yoga and Peloton. Although DDP Yoga was just a stretch class, but still a 20 min stretch class which i need for walking, however the peloton weights class was tough. I am not 18 anymore…. that’s clear. I just cannot lift the same weights that i use too (today!), it’s going to be a journey but i will get there.

I know lifting weights is important. Lifting free weights burns calories because it is a form of resistance training, which causes muscle fibers to contract and break down. The body then needs to repair and rebuild those muscle fibers, which requires energy in the form of calories. Additionally, resistance training can increase muscle mass, which can lead to an increase in resting metabolism, meaning that the body burns more calories at rest.

I need to carry on both the free weight training and the body weight training and keep accelerating my body to burn calories!

Right, time for a shower and then bed and then the long Wednesday awaits!

Jan 16th, 2023: Back on it

After a day’s recovery i felt the need to get back on it today…. so a typical working day walking, then late night DDP Yoga, Peloton Strength class and an hour in the sauna blanket. So, I hope tomorrow will be a good day!

However, the weight for today was slightly up 115.5 kg +0.2 kg

I think i will be fine with this after the weekend, it may be a trend we need to keep track of. I didn’t do enough exercise and the weekend before my weight slightly increased also! Let’s keep an eye on this over the next few weekends!

Today was a solid walking day, almost 26k steps and 13 miles.

I don’t feel too bad after it, but i think that’s because i am consistent on the DDP Yoga to stretch me out. Although tonight i did do a 20 min strength class.

After i spent a very hot and sweaty hour in that sauna blanket!

Eating was also super balanced! and making sure i keep to the calories i need!

So still staying consistent, i thought i might have a jitter by now, but hopefully i can get through to a month’s consistency.

Time to rest these heavy eyes!

Jan 15th, 2023: Chill out evening

Let’s get down to the numbers, firstly i wasn’t able to weigh myself first thing, i just didn’t have the time as i was in a rush to get to Sittingbourne for the rugby. My team played really well but the game ended a drawer!

Once i got home i put myself on the scales expecting that weigh to have increased….. but 115.3 kg was in front of me, which is -0.5 kg from yesterday.

I am happy we are still seeing the little decreases taking place and at points some big drops and this week has been good to keep track on things.

But after two weeks of solid DDP Yoga and Peloton and Walking, i have decided to take a rest day and my body is definitely feeling it. My knees have been bothering me for a few days now and I’ve finally decided to take a break and give them some much needed recovery time. My body battery results from today in Garmin were low, and i needed to reflect!

Rest days are an important part of any exercise routine. They allow your body to recover from the stress and strain of regular exercise and prevent injury. For me, my knees have been telling me for a while now that they need a break and who can blame them with the amount of walking i do in a week. I think over 153k steps, and 76 miles is a lot for most people let alone an overweight fella!

But it’s not just physical injuries that rest days can prevent. Taking a break from your usual exercise routine can also help prevent mental burnout and fatigue. It’s important to listen to your body and pay attention to its signals. If you’re feeling tired or sore, it may be a sign that you need to take a rest day.

Rest days don’t mean you have to be completely inactive, however. Gentle stretching, yoga or even a walk can help keep your body active and promote recovery. It’s also a good opportunity to focus on other aspects of your health, such as nutrition and hydration. In my case tonight, i sat and did 10 mins of meditation.

So, today I’m taking it easy, giving my knees and my body the rest they need. And tomorrow, I’ll be back to my regular exercise routine, refreshed and ready to go. It’s important to remember that a little rest goes a long way in helping you achieve your fitness goals in the long run.

Feet up and switching off!
